Default Car Stalling, Can't Remove Key, Can't Shift

Hi,
Twice this has happened to me. It happened two nights ago driving in rush hour traffic. My car died, all the warning lights came on and then went out, nothing would work. I could not get it to start - no noise at all. I also could not remove the key, or shift gears. It's with my mechanic and he has run diagnostics and it is not finding anything. Has anyone ever experienced this? I am not driving until I know it is fixed. I should add, when the tow truck arrived, I was able to start the car. Being stuck on a major beltway at night was scary scary stuff! Thank you.

Get the battery and alternator checked. Just happened to my sister in her SF. The alternator was bad and killed the battery. The low voltage messes with the computer and it screws up the electronics so they act wonky. My guess, the alternator is bad and needs replacing, The battery is probably fine, just needs a charge.
