Default RPM jump under 20mph

While driving under 20mph the engine will rev itself up automatically with input from the pedal. It did it quite a bit less as the engine warmed up. It just started it. We have kept up with all maintenance schedules and it has always had high grade synthetic in it. I am an at home mechanic so, at first I thought it was the tranny slipping, but the torque converter isnt locking. Seems like a bad input from the pcm. It has 98000 miles on it. Anybody had similar problems?

Sorry, was in a hurry. Its a 2005, the smaller engine, don't remember right now. I'm outta town so cant run out and check it. Wife told me about the problem over the phone. It has just under 99000 miles and there were no engine codes thrown. No at home scanner(though i need one for my diesel) so I have not got an official readout.
