Default Santa Fe Air Conditioning Operation

I have an '06 Santa Fe with the 2.7 L motor. The air conditioner is cycling
on and off and at times not cooling. The pressure of the gas is roughly
150 psi at 110 degrees F ambient, temperature of metal tube measured near high pressure port.
I believe that to be a normal pressure for R-134A.
Operational pressures at high and low ports are roughly 325 and 35 psi
respecfully at idle speed.

I have looked at the Hyundai website and gotten bits and pieces of the system operation,
triple pressure switch w/pressure values in kg/cm2.
Not real sure where the pressure switch is located. I would like to know if anyone has knowledge
of a reference that will show the system
components' locations under the hood and if some sort of
theory of operation might exist that I could study to see if I actually have
a concern. Should a normally serviced system cycle on and off in four to
eight second time intervals? Does this indicate and overcharged system
or perhaps a triple presure switch problem? Just a few questions, I think
the issue should be simple as the system is operational, just seems to
poop out when it gets hot outside.

Thank you in advance

Default The Rest of the Story (No Whining)

I bought the vehicle in June 2010, summer heat caused the A/C to drop
off once or twice, didn't tell mama. This summer, last week, mama took
the car with her girl friends to lunch, temps above 100 F. Well, the car
decided not to cool, uh-oh. My previous rant was one of frustration with
the product line, little or no experience.
Went to the library and checked out the FSM # A26S-EU36D, Volumes I
and II as well as a Chilton's, now Haynes book, P/N 32200 for the 2001
through 2006 Santa Fe's, the FSM was for an '04, since mine is an '06
and same design series, assumed that manual would work for my issues.
The FSM tells me that I can operate the car with the hight port pressure
between 199 and 228 PSI. Measured the pressure at 375 PSI and thought
this might explain the shut off issues, sure enough the triple pressure
switch I was asking about was most likely the issue of shut off. Bled the
pressure in increments to see just how far I could take her and still get
cooling that I wanted. Wound up with a high port pressure of 255 PSI and
low port of 35 PSI to get the cooling I wanted inside the cabin. She
pushes 42 degree F air with outside temps at 98 F. I found that if I took
the pressure much below the 255 mark, she just didn't want to cool right.
I know the FSM says high port pressures should not exceed 228, but mine
just doesn't want to cool at that pressure. I am not one to go and invest
a couple of grand to make it perform to spec when I can operate her at
pressures up to 375 PSI and not blow... So, my 255 PSI high port
pressure will be what I go with. Remember to watch your ambient temps,
they will force your pressures up. Actually, the pressures I am seeing now
are totally in line with the gage manufacturer's charts, just don't line up
with the Korean FSM data. Oh, the triple pressure switch appears to be
mounted on top of the RH fender in line with the high pressure line,
roughly 18 inches aft of the pressure port. You Guru's that read this,
know that I just want to share some life experience here and am aware
that I probably need to replace the system, just don't want to take it to
the dealer and exchange a pound of flesh for the work. Might consider
giving my first born though..... Hope this lesson informs someone on the
forum. Oh, mama took the car 20 minutes ago in 103 degree heat, my
phone has not rung and yes it is turned on..... Happy 4th of July to all.

Tried to upload schematic diagram, not able to do so. If you would like
an E-Mail with a gif or pdf of the schematic from the FSM drop me a
line at millweigh@yahoo.com and I will attach the file to my reply.

Cheers.
