My DIL bought a Santa Fe last fall. Today, coming out of a parking lock, the steering locked up tight. It has been hauled to a dealer who reports the steering box needs replacing. They didn't have parts so she is driving a loaner. This is the vehicle that my grandsons are frequently in.

Anyone have something similar happen?

It's a 2015.

I checked another Santa Fe forum and there are several reports of steering locking up or Power steering being lost.

 

Wait, did the steering lock or did the power steering pump just fail and make the steering hard? Big difference. Did the engine stall?

 

Don't really know. My DIL told my son who told me that all of a sudden the steering locked up. That could well mean that just the PS was lost. In any event, the dealer says a whole new steering column is needed and none are available in the US. That tells me something also.

By the way, it is a 2014 not a 2015.

 

So it's not the steering box (actually, steering rack) that locked it's the column itself? Maybe it has to do with the ignition interlock. Either way, I've never heard of that happen on a Santa Fe or any Hyundai.
