Default '06 Sonata ATF change

Do I drain and then drop the pan to change the internal filter? Any flushing of the hoses or tubes to be done also?

Take it to the dealer to have it flushed on a machine. There is no servicable filter in teh trans. It's deep inside the trans. Also, Hyundai automatics REQUIRE SP-III fluid. Most non-dealer mechanics don't know that and will used the wrong fluid (which will damage your trans and void your warranty).

2006 Sonata Owners Manual:

Hyundai TSB 10-AT-002:

Cliffs Notes:
- Only use Hyundai Approved transmission fluids
- 2006 Sonata requires SP-III trans fluid
- SP-IV and SP-III are NOT interchangeable
- Non-approved transmission fluids will cause transmission damage
- Damage caused by the use of non-approved transmission fluid is not covered by vehicle warranty

Up here in Canada, this service runs about $370.00. Is the trans flush recommended or required?

You work at a service shop? How many quarts do you put back in after the drain? I think I remember seeing in the manual the transaxle takes about 10 quarts or so? I have an 07 Sonata with the 3.3 V6 and shiftronic 5 speed. I noticed that some of the shifts are a little rough at times. The car has now got almost 50,000 miles and I dont know if the PO had the trans service at 25,000 or not. Probably the safest thing to do is assume it was not done.
