Hi all,

I am considering purchasing a 09 Sonata w 100k miles.
I believe the 09 Sonata has the Theta II engine.
Hasn't Hyundai recalled 11 & 12 Sonatas with this engine?
Is there reason for concern that this 09 engine will fail prematurely?
Is it a GDI engine?

That is correct.

Don't know for sure. I think the recall dealt with the 2.0 turbo version. Having said that, someone else will jump in to correct me if wrong. I do know there has been no recall on the Theta II in the family's 09 Sonata.

The one in our family since new has ~135k on the odometer. Well cared for, it starts and runs like the proverbial swiss watch. Uses no oil and has no oil leaks.

Yes, by definition the Theta II is a GDI engine. The previous multiport injection was the Theta.
