Default 2002 V6 Sonata Engine Interchange

I have a 2002 Sonata V6 that just broke the timing chain. A local salvage yard has a 2006 Kia Optima engine with 13K miles on it. They assured me the engine would iterchange. I got the engine home, but noticed the Kia engine has electronic ignition, vs the 2002 having a coil pack setup. Will this engine work in my car without changing the ecu, or wire harness? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Tim

I'm not sure what you mean by "electronic ignition" vs "coil pack setup". Just about all cars manufactured since the late 1970s or early 1980s possess electronic ignitions. All use a coil of some sort. Can you expand on what you mean?

I think I have your situation figured out. The coil pack (sans the ohmmeter) on your original 2002 2.7 liter V6 engine looks like:

The coil pack on a 2006 2.7 liter Kia V6 should look similar, if not exactly the same.

I am guessing what you mean by "electronic ignition" are individual coils mounted as part of each spark plug boot. They look like:

If so, the salvage yard has not sold you a 2.7 liter V6 engine from a 2006 Kia Optima, but a 3.5 liter V6 from a 2006 Kia Amanti. This is the same engine used in the Hyundai XG350, early Entourage/Sedona minivans, some Santa Fe models and a few other applications but never the Sonata or Optima.

Will this engine work in my car without changing the ecu, or wire harness?

No. I suggest you take it back to the salvage yard and get your money back.

Thanks Ken99. It just didnt look right. The engine is tagged as a 2.7 liter, but this spark plug set up is considerably different. There is no coil pack on the Kia engine, and it has a sensor connected to each spark plug that my Sonata does not. Thanks again, greatly appreciate your help.
