2009 sonata
my 2009 sonata has almost 20,000 miles on it and the check engine light came on for the first time today. I'm guessing this is normal to have a routine check and then clear it? I unhooked the battery cable and cleared it and then drove car a while and it never came back on. anybody know if I'm correct? thanks ( I'm used to working on freightliners and macks!)
You're supposed to have the code analyzed with a code reader before you clear it. It will give you specific clues as to the problem. Too late now, you cleared the code. Next time take it to AutoZone for a free code reading first.
Why not take advantage of the warranty that came with your new car? If the check engine light comes on take the car into the dealer have them check the code and make the necessary repair.
Sometimes the check engine light can come on if the gas cap is not on properly.
