Default Sonata Start Problem

2007 Sonata

No response when turning key. Tried shifting in and out of park, then it worked.

Does Hyundai have a transmission range selector to control this? Will it throw a code on the OBD?

The transmission needs to be in PARK or NEUTRAL for the starter to work. If the shifter wasn't fully in park, the car will not start. Sounds normal to me.

Yes it does. Specific codes for the range switch are:

P0705 Transmission range (TR) sensor/switch, PRNDL input – circuit malfunction Wiring, TR sensor/switch, ECM/TCM
P0706 Transmission range (TR) sensor/switch – range/performance problem Wiring, TR sensor/switch
P0707 Transmission range (TR) sensor/switch – low input Wiring short to ground, TR sensor/switch, ECM/TCM
P0708 Transmission range (TR) sensor/switch –high input Wiring short to positive, TR sensor/switch, ECM/TCM
P0709 Transmission range (TR) sensor/switch – circuit intermittent Wiring, poor connection, TR sensor/switch, ECM/TCM

Default Thanks

Thanks Ken99. I know it must be in Park or neutral. This is my mother in laws car. She says she tried shifting back and forth a few times, still nothing, a neighbor tried, nothing, then one more try, and it worked. So, I'm suspecting it will happen again. I did not have my code reader with me when she told me about this.

I take it the transmission range selector is under the hood somewhere, hooked to a cable.

First I will run the code reader.

Yes, it is:

However, you will only get a code of the sensor/wiring is bad. You won't get a code if the cable is just mis-adjusted.

If she the original owner, it's covered under warranty 10y/100k miles. If she's not the original owner it's covered 5y/60k miles.

Default sonata start

She is almost 80. Had the car a year. Has 66k on it. I'm waiting to see if it happens again. Don't have the service manual for it. So, will wait until it happens again, and if so, check for a code. If not, will need help on adjusting.
Thanks for the picture!

Default transmission range selector

2006 sonata. How to adjust it?
Car won't start again. It does crank. Today the key would not come out of the ignition. Then, after trying Neutral to Park again, it came out.

I have your picture, can you tell me how to adjust? I thought these always did not let starter motor work, but the car does crank.

Never mind, I found a picture elsewhere, you take out the battery tray, have the transmission in neutral, and see if the holes line up, which they did. Car is being towed to the Dealer.
