Default Sonata Visor Problems

I have had my sun visor replaced 5 times now under warranty. The dealer has told me it is a factory defect. The visor broke again today at 63,000 miles. The visor makes a clicking sound and then just hangs down. Would this be a safety issue since it is blocking my vision now? Has anyone else had this problem?

Holy crap, I thought I was the only one! I only have 33k miles on my 06' Sonata and it broke at least 10k ago and I just never really bothered to try and get it fixed. I figured the warranty wouldn't cover that kind of stuff now.

??

Same story here. I just had my PS Visor on my 06 break for the 3rd time. Also replaced DS 3 times already. It was always replaced under warranty but now that it has 63000 on it they won't replace. The manager admits freely that it is a factory defect that is worse in hot climates. Some plastic piece melts inside the mechanism. I consider this to be a safety issue and I'm going to file a report with the NTSB. It's funny that they will lose a future customer over something they can't fix.

That's not a safety issue. Factory defect, probably. Safety problem, no. See if the 07 up versions are any different and replace it with a newer one.

Doubt it. The driver side visor is sagging on my 08 after only 14 months of ownership.

That's just sad. I wonder if a visor from a different model could be modified to fit.

I haven't looked into that possibility very far, assuming I would get the existing one replaced under warranty. My daughter's 09 GLS does have different shaped visors and they function slightly different. I'll have to look closer at those next time the car comes home. Of course, adapting something else always raises the issue of matching interior color.

I believe there was a TSB that actually acknowledged the visor problem and there was an updated design. I've got 3 yrs and 43k and no visor problems yet.

I have an 07 Sonata and have had both my visors replaced, under warranty.

I'm surprised they didn't change the design/material of the part that keeps breaking. It's pretty obvious that there is a problem, and that the problem is relatively easy to repair. I mean, visor technology is not high tech, everyone knows how to make visors that adjust and stay in place. Shame Hyundai.

Otherwise, though, my Sonata (16k miles) hasn't given me any problems.

I was at my Hyundai dealership today to have an electrical problem looked into. I went to parts department to ask if they had both driver/passenger sun visors, and if they had been redesigned. They told me they had been. Do you know if this is correct?

Thanks
