'08nTiburon GT starting issue
My cousin has a '08 Tiburon GT. He's offered it to me for a good price but i havent bought it b/c its not starting. It would be the second time ive owned a Tiburon and would be my second car. He didnt start it for 2 years but strerted 7 months ago with a new battery. Then it sat for 6 more months and now wont start again. Dash lights up, relay clicks, engine does not turn over. I plan to go over again this week and check the fuses, relay, battery terminals and ground. Starter location is not really conducive to jumping or taping with a hammer. Based on info at hand, assuming the things ill be checking are good, does it seem likely the issue is the starter or is there an equally possible chance that older gas has clogged up something in the fuel delivery? Thanks in advance for your thoughts here.
Batteries will usually hold a charge for a couple of weeks, but not for 6 mos. Get it fully charged.
As far as tapping the starter, with older vehicles that had large heavy starters, they would handle a rap or two, BUT NOT the starters in cars today.
They are lighter have the same cranking power, but have expensive strong pole shoes inside that can crack if the starter is struck past a tap or two. If you are going to do it you might use a piece of broomstick, but no hammer.
Something to think about,, see if you can put some fresh gasoline in the tank. After 6 months the ability to ignite is reduced considerably.
