Default 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance

My timing belt is due for replacement (60000 miles) soon as well as new spark plugs, belts, hoses etc. I was also informed that it is wise to replace water pump etc. when they change the belts etc. Is this true? Grand total that I was quoted for everything is 1000 dollars (includes tune-up parts and labor as well as belts, water pump. spark plugs. Does this sound reasonable or should I get another opinion?

In my opinion, there is no need to replace the pump unless it's leaking. If you are the original owner, the motor (and water pump) is covered for 100,000 miles, so why change it at 60,000. If it goes between 60,000 and 100,000 it will be covered.

To cut down on cost, its not really all that hard to replace your own spark plugs, granted its more difficult on a six cyclinder but still pretty simple. Maybe an easy way to cut down on cost. I'm a college student and I pretty much taught myself how to do that cause i can't afford a mechanic, thank you autozone employees.
