Default Fuel Filter

I'm getting poor fuel economy (at best 21mpg) and at 93,000 miles I'm wondering if the filter has ever been changed. Where would I find it? Is it hard to change? How often should they be changed? Thanks,Scott

P.S. I know it is Winter, but I've gone through almost a 1/4 tank and only gone 50 miles.

I would be more concerned about the last time it has has plugs and wires.. V6 has bad habit of burning the tar out of the electrodes on 1 bank down to the porcelin, thus it is hard to fire those offending plugs.. then the voltage needed starts looking for another path to ground.. are the plug wires covered in a white haze/dust looking ?

How about big old white spots on coil bodies (burn through)

Common Hyundai V6 trait -- burn 1 bank to porcelin, other bank looks good

Upgrade to NGK IRIDIUM, and the plugs should last longer/wear better..

As to the fuel filter, if there was problem there, it would source lean condition if filter restricting, and the fuel filter is located in the fuel pump module in the fuel tank.

I haven't looked that far into this car yet. I got it in late August of last year. It runs very smooth so I have not looked at the plugs and wires. Interesting information, though. I think I'd better be checking under the hood more often.
So....I would have to drop the tank to change the fuel filter? Do I ever need to change the fuel filter? Would my wife's 2002 Sonata be the same way? Thanks,Scott

The fuel pump modules is accessed via hole in floor at front edge of trunk,,, fold the seat down, lift the carpet.

XG may come straight out... Sonata is similar to XG

Im not sure what year you have, or if same as my 02, but call advance auto, they had the filter, (other stores, and dealerships will tell you it is in the tank), but its right by the rear driverside tire. Takes about 5 min to replace. Already did mine, and was a piece of cake. Part wasnt expensive either. If you want pics, let me know
