A few years ago I would never have looked twice at Hyundai. I had the unhappy experience of working on on of the early Hyundai ponys and that gave me a lousy opinion of the brand. I have driven Mazda vehicles since 1985 and up until a few weeks ago I had a 02 Protege, 97 Millenia S and a 2000 Miata. A trip to Atlanta in Dec 05 introduced me to the new 2006 Sonata. I had a GLS V6 as a rental car for a few days. I was terribly impressed, enough so that when I returned to Canada I started researching the Sonata. The reviews were very positive. It was time to retire the Millenia and I had planned on a Mazda 6 GT hatchback but I just couldn't reconcile paying the difference between the Sonata LX and the Mazda 6. I know the Mazda would be the winner for handling but if I want to race through corners I'll take the Miata. Anyway, I bought an 06 Sonata LX in the dark cinnamon. So far, just 700 km on it but it has been a pleasure. Just about time to take the Miata out of winter storage so the Sonata will not get a lot of mileage this summer but I will be looking forward to every drive (mostly on rainy days since I only drive the Miata when I can drop the top). This may be the beginning of a relationship with Hyundai. Certainly can't beat the warranty. I am glad to see there is such an active forum for Hyundai. I will be a frequent visitor.

 

Hyundais are fun. Walk into the light my son, do not fear conversion.
