Default Long term effects of Lucas oil

I have a 2001 Santa Fe (2.6 automatic) 165k miles.....I neglected the transmission for the last 60k miles and it is starting to show. The way it is starting to show is a delay when putting the car in reverse, or on drive before the transmission engages. The mechanic wants $1600 to repair/rebuild the transmission. Any one has any experience with Lucas trans oil? I have heard good and bad.

Changing the oil now isn't going to fix the problem. Lucas oil is fine . . . in a working transmission. Get the trans fixed properly first.

Nova:

Are you saying that there isnt any detrimental or negative effects to using Lucas Oil? Basically from where I see it, I'm not loosing anything by trying it, but I want to hear people's experience if on the long run I would be doing more damage by putting this oil in it.

If it meets SP-III it will be fine. If it doesn't, then don't use it. Bottom line, repair the transmission.

Its a toss up, Just changing the fluid once the trans is damaged might cause it to die real quick. Might not also, depends how damaged it is.

I did a partial fluid change (5 1/2 quarts) the car is only slipping a little bit (once in the morning when putting reverse, and then once on 1st. Will do another in a month or so, I think the fluid was just completely worn out.
