How do you know there wasn't 2.4 gallons in the tank? Just because the gauge shows "E" doesn't mean the tank is actually empty. Many times there is a reserve to prevent people from running out of gas. I knowthe fuel light on my Tucson goes on justbefore the gauge reads "E" but there is about 3-4 gallons still in the tank.
