New Accent owner from Ontario Canada

Hey everyone,
Just thought I'd introduce myself.
I just got myself a 2000 Accent (ex left it to me when we broke up, she took the new Jeep we bought together... whatever, no payments on the Accent)

The Accent is going to be my winter beater. It is base EVERYTHING, NO OPTIONS... lol
no power steering, no ABS, manual windows, no power locks, 1.5L 5 speed manual, no power seats, tape deck
I have been around this car for about 3 years now and know all the maintenance that has been done in the last 3 years. All in all the car has been a great little car, very dependable. In the last 3 years the only things it has needed done are a MAF sensor and just last week needed a cat/exhaust manifold to pass e-test.

My main reason for joining is I am having issues installing my new HU (I say new, but its just one I have kicking around)
I got the center section of the dash unscrewed and popped it out. But I can only pull it about 1" from the dash before the wires hooked up to the HVAC reach their end. I can't get my hand in behind the panel to unplug the wires. Is there something I'm missing?

For those wondering... my summer car is a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
