Default starting problems

Hi i'm having problems with my accent its a 53 plate. normally it will start from cold but if you drive a short distance when you go to restart it wont rev. you have to wait around 15 mins for the engine to warm up before you get the revs/acceleration back.

its been to the garage but no codes showed up. Anyone any ideas?

Default RE: starting problems

Try this if it isn't fixed yet: When the car is warm and hard to start, turn the key from OFF to ON (without going to start), leave it in ON for a few seconds (until you hear the fuel pump shut down if you hear it), then back to OFF. Repeat this about 5 times, then go to START and see if the car starts right up. I'm told that if this is the case, the fuel pump is the problem (pressure bleeding off due to bad pump seals, with cavitation/vapor lock resulting in the fuel lines). When everything cools enough, the void goes away and it starts right up... or you can try my method to build up enough pressure to get past the void in the lines.

Strangely enough, I've had this issue with my 95 Escort for about 4 years. Because cycling between ON and OFF several times always makes the car start, I haven't gotten around to changing out the fuel pump. Just today on the Escort forum (FEOA.org), someone suggested the problem was the IAC valve, and gave me instructions on how to check the resistance between the leads and the leads and ground to check to see if it's okay. In my case it was, which brings me back to the weak fuel pump theory (which someone suggested to me on another forum a while back).
