1998Sonata, 150,000 miles. This is mechnically sound car butFilled up tank recently and noticed gas smell and dripping. The tank is cracked at the top. My question is: tanks are at least $270 + the labor to install, not sure if I want to spend that. Any source for used tanks out there? Any experiences to share? I wonder if present tank is safe to use, if only a few gallons at a time in the bottom of tank. Thanks for your input. I checked on recalls, it was pressure tested at the dealer before I owned it, and checked out ok. The dealer says they will not replace the tank.

 

I would *not* use a tank out of a junk yard; it's going to be old and likely to leak as well. I think it changing it out yourself is do-able if you do any of your own work. People do their own fuel pumps all the time; this just takes it one step further.
