Bought a used 2010 elantra touring from hyundai dealer . Car had 51000 miles at purchase ,two weeks after owning the car a knock from engine started and became louder and louder . I took back to dealer and was told engine was bad and needed to be replaced and i did not purchase an extended warranty . So they said i was getting a deal and they charged me 2200$ for a short block installed and reused everything else , but now a month later new motor is making same noise .. i cant figure out what it is ?? Or what to do ,i contacted service manager i worked with before and he will not return my calls .. they told me origional problem was a wrist pin .
Dave,
You have definitely stepped into a large pile of barnyard feces.
Sounds like you have what most states would call as a "Lemon" and
the dealer is jamming up your backside.
Recommend you take a long look at the paperwork from the purchase.
Any dealer worth his salt will give a 30 day bumper to bumper warranty.
If this is a Hyundai dealer, get on the phone with your local Better Business
Bureau and find out what his history is. The second motor they "Hoodwinked"
you into buying should have a 1 year warranty or guarantee on it, again look
closely at the paperwork for the engine work.
I recommend you contact your local district attorney and see if he/she
will help you determine what if any legal recourse you may have.
Additionally, document this atrocity in a memorandum to Hyundai Motor of
America and ask them if the dealer you bought the car from is doing his
customers right. Document this and do not hesitate, someone in this
shady dealership chain of command will either wake up or get a wake up
call from above.
Your state ought to have a "Lemon Law" that protects consumers from
this sort of fraud. A 30 day warranty is pretty much standard and you
need to remember this the next time you buy a car. Also, I would advise
you use extreme caution with this dealership for repeat business.
P.S. I am not a lawyer, but I have been bent over the table a few times
with car dealers who have little or no business scruples. Good luck.
Best Regards,
Paul
