My daughter has a 25K Accent that we recently bought used .... obviously still under warranty, so I am trying to understand any common problems this year/model might have before I take it to the dealership.
Recently it would not start ... (all normal dash lights) would not crank .... tried again several times, then eventually it started normally .... happened again today but took approx twenty attempts before she started up.

Battery and connections check out

Any issues with the ignition switch itself, or the ECU (computer) ?

Not cranking??
That sounds like a starter issue or bad grounds
When it fails to crank, check to see if there is battery voltage at the starter
Follow the cable from the B+ (positive) battery to the starter. Should be 12 volts
Check voltage drop from B- (negative) battery to engine block. Should be less than 0.7 volt
If voltage checks out then it probably is the starter
If the voltages do not check out then repair as necessary

 

Great reply thanks ! That sounds simple. Would it be common for a starter to work perfectly 99% of the time and occasionally act up .... ?

 

Failure modes of electrical components can go from instant and complete failure to working intermittently or failing intermittently.
