2004 Accent 1.6.

Running, then suddenly quite dead.

I borrowed a scanner and it showed:
P0037 B1S202 Heater Circuit Voltage Low
P0036 O2 Heater Circuit B1S2
P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Problem
P0650 MIL Control Circuit Malfunction

I expect the Heater codes are unrelated to the problem and I replaced the Camshaft Sensor but it still did not start

So I cleared codes and cranked it again to set a fresh set only the order changed:

P0037 B1S202 Heater Circuit Voltage Low
P0650 MIL Control Circuit Malfunction
P0036 O2 Heater Circuit B1S2
P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor Problem

Could a timing belt throw these codes?

What year? how many miles on it? If it's a new car the timing belt shouldn't malfunction that early, in my opinion.

 

It sounds like a wiring issue
The cam sensor can prevent start up
Since you have already changed it
Would suspect that it is the wiring

Check to see if there is any frayed wires
Then check schematics to see if anything else is on the same circuit
If it is then disconnect it one by one to see if engine will start

Accent? Seem to remember the old windshields would leak

 

Unfortunately, it turns out to be a timing belt problem

I understand that this is an interference engine. I suppose that means I have a bunch of bent valves? Do I have any hope?

 

Do you have any skills in fixing engines?
If not then there is no hope.
If you do then I would just buy a new timing belt and stick it on and hope for the best.
Probably won't do much good.

 

Yes, I think I will put the timing belt on far enough to do a compression test, which I expect it will fail, but at least I will know which cylinders have bad valves. Then I will do a job I would rather not.
