What engine (1.5L SOHC or 1.5L DOHC)?

Hey there, I am trying to change this exact part, but I have two questions. i'm rather new to car repair, so bare with me...

One, how do I tell whether I have a Single Overhead Cam or a Dual?

and two... my father says I need to put the vehicle up on a lift and support the engine before I can change this, but a carguy I know says thats ludicrous and you would at most need to take off a wheel.

Can someone point me toward some instructions on changing this, or at least tell me if I NEED to take it to a mechanic with a lift... Thanks a lot!

With my 99 Elantra I found it took a combination of working on top and then going underneath to disconnect the wires. Removing the wheel was not necessary nor needed. As you can see in the diagram, the starter is on top in the rear, so it IS hard to get to. If you are not familiar with working underneath, then it's a good idea to have a mechanic do it, but it can be done in the driveway with some jackstands.

The book only show 1.5 SOHC, but it really doesn't matter for the starter anyway.

The instructions for removal assume you know what you are doing:

1.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2.
Remove the speedometer cable and the shift cable.
3.
Disconnect the starter motor connector and terminal.
4.
Remove the starter motor assembly.
5.
Installation is the reverse order of removal.
