Default Anybody else ever have this problem?

I tried searching the forum but got no responses. We have a 2007 Santa Fe. The other day my girlfriend gets home and says the check engine light is on. So I figure its a O2 sensor or something and I'll schedule a service appointment. Well today she goes to leave and the fuel guage reads empty. She stopped to get gas and the guage goes up to halfway and then drops back to empty. Is this a sending unit problem and would that cause the check engine light to come on and how hard is it to replace? I know alot of questions but I'm rather cheep and hate to pay for something I can do myself. I really don't trust dealers anymore after they did not service my rear brakes and I had to replace them.

Thanks Al

I checked the codes and it looks like the fuel level sensor. I was just trying to find out in case the warranty doesn't cover it. They didn't cover my rear calapers locking up after only 30,000 miles. The book isn't completely clear on whats covered. I always thought electrical wasn't covered. Anyway I called 2 dealers the first one started giving me a bunch of crap saying he couldn't tell me if its covered and the car could have been in an accident. The second dealer was a lot better told me it should be covered and he would check it to make sure.

I have a 2008 santa fe, replaced both fuel level sensors for the same problem. Now the gauge reads just over half full when tank is at max level.I removed both sensors and tried to sweep them to full (out of car ) and got the same result. Any ideas? does the gauge need recalibrating?

Hi, just finished replacing fuel level sensors on my sante fe. Gauge was dropping to empty under half a tank so i removed the old sensors to find the contacts worn on both. First fill up the gauge went to just over half.So thinking i had a bad install i removed the units and tried them out of the tank to find both sensors at full sweep only go to just over half.tried the old sensors again and same result.with the sensors unplugged the gauge reads empty.Anyone know if there is a procedure to recal the gauge?
