Automatic Transmission Problem
Automatic transmission Hyundai accent:
Symptoms: Car goes into first gear very well. usually never shifts into second gear. Goes up to red line without shifting.
10% of the time, the car shifts hard into 2nd gear. there is a substantial jolt. Then the car goes back to first gear quickly.
whats wrong? what should I look at? what should I replace?
Thank you!

RE: Automatic Transmission Problem
The first thing I would check would be the transmission fluid. Your owner's manual will probably say the fluid should be checked with the engine running. You want to make sure that the fluid is up to the proper level and that it doesn't smell burnt (normally it has a somewhat sweet smell).
If the fluid level looks good and seems to be ok, then it may be that just a passage is blocked in the transmission or (more expensively) one or more of the clutches in the auto tranny need to be replaced.
