Brake pedal stroke too small - 03 accent
Have just installed new rear brakes - shoes, cylinders and drums. Regreased and wound in the auto adjusters and operated the handbrake many times.
All the pedal measurements look good except the pedal stroke.
The manual says 4.95 inch (125mm) minimum - I'm getting about 2/3 of that.
There is definitely the correct amount of free play.
Does anyone know what I can do about this?
Also can anyone tell me where the adjustments are for this - it's an unusual design as the master cylinder is on the opposite side of the car, so you can't adjust anything at the pedal (except brake light switch)?

So we understand exactly what you are telling us,
Are you saying the brakes would apply sooner?
If that is so, when there is very little travel with the rear brake shoes , the pedal is high.
If the rear adjusters were not working correctly , pedal travel increases.
Also, many times the teeth and cam that operate the adjusters become worn and don't do the job and should be replaced when shoes are replaced.
Did you check the teeth on the adjusters and the edge of the cam that moves the toothed adjusting wheel? If not, you should. .

Thanks for your answer.
I wound the adjusters back in and then operated the brakes to re-adjust them and now its very close to correct, under 1cm less travel than spec.
Im thinking someone may have pressed the brakes without the drums on.
I'm still curious where the "pedal" adjustments are though?
Im curious what you need to take off the car to even see them.
