Default Engine sputters and CEL on

Hi all!

Wife's 09 accent sedan started sputtering and the CEL light blinked about 15 times before going solid. It acts like a misfire....

Did not get the codes yet but any ideas or pointers at what I should look at?? I hear they are prone to coil failure...

Thanx!!

What kind of reader? If the Check Engine light is on there should be a code. The other possibility is a problem with the computer itself.

It's a U480. Buy U480 1.5" LCD Universal CAN-BUS OBD2 Car Diagnostic Code Reader Memo Scanner

I know...it's a 20$ thingy, but works great on other Hyundais I tried....I can erase the code, but it reads ''NO CODE''. And the CEL comes back on after like 3 minutes... Looked at a few things today, looking for loose or disconnected wires, vacuum, etc etc. Found nothing to be out of place. It's -30C here today so I ain't crawling under there fer sure!!

I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get one of those ''70$ diagnostic'' from my mechanic....

Well.... 2 coils later, and 289$ including diagnosis, labor and parts. She runs like new!

Both other coils gave out, and did the spark plugs while we were there. 209$.

So total for 4 coils, 4 plugs, diagnosis and labour: 498$
