Default New antenna

Hi there,

I own a Accent GS from 1997. Some weeks ago some vandals broke the antenna on the car! [:@]So now I have to replace it with a new (manual) one.
I've found out, that I have to remove the left wheel and the "cover" in on top of the wheel (I don't know what it's called in English). So that I can get to the antenna from beneath.

My question are: Do I really have to replace the wire from the antenna all the way to the radio inside the car? Or is it possible to cut the existing wire and connect it to the new wire from the new antenna?

I hope you understand my problem. I'm sorry for my bad English :-)

Regards,
Kasper

No, you don't need to replace the wire, just the mast antenna itself. The wire should just just unplug from the original antenna without cutting it.

1997 > G 1.5 DOHC > Body Electrical System

ANTENNA REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Remove the front wheel guard and antenna mounting bolt.

2. Remove the antenna mounting nut.

3. Disconnect the wiring and antenna cable.

4. Remove the antenna assembly.

5. Installation is the reverse order of preceding steps.

Thanks for your reply!

My problem is that I can't disconnect the existing wire from the antenna. It's kind of welted on like this one:

I know this is a motorized one, but the wire are connected the my antenna the same way.

I thougth that mabye I could asembly the new wire from the new antenna with the existing wire inside the car behind the glove box?? Or is that a bad idea compared to the loss of signal etc.??

Hi again,

I couldn't change the antenna without changing the wire :-( But now it's done, and it works perfect.

Thanks for your help!

I couldn't disconnect the wire from the old antenna. But I'm not sure if the old was the original. But now it works, and thats what counts ;-)
