Default timing belt tensioner spring

After endless amount of time, I got all the parts off and removed the timing belt. I'm about to put on a new timing belt. First, I need to put the tensioner back on. There is a spring on the left side that goes into the hole with the bolt. However, I can't bend the spring back far enough to fit it on the tensioner and other piece. I can't do anything until I put back on the tensioner with the spring. I need help. ANyone who has replaced their timing belt, do you have any suggestions? I don't know if other hyundais beside accents have the spring on the left side of the tensioner.
