Default Atoz crankshaft failure

The crankshaft of my Atoz failed a few days ago. I bought the car new in November 2003 and it's only done 37,000 km. I find it quite strange that the crankshaft can fail after only 37,000km. I believe this could only be a result of a defective engine in the first place. My dealer is contacting Hyundai to see what they can do. The warranty was only for 2 years but I still believe that if the engine was defective (I can see any other reason why it would fail) then it should be replaced without cost.

Does anyone have any experience of crankshaft failure in a Hyundai engine?
