Default ‘15 Elantra Sport died while driving, now a/c only blows hot

My son was driving my car. As he was going about 40mph, the car just dies. After disconnecting the battery for approx 3 mins, reconnecting- the car started. But then the a/c would only blow hot air. Never had problems with the a/c before. I had the battery tested, it’s fine. I have had a battery short out before it’s time- before, wondering if this all could be connected. Any helpful advice is appreciated.

Something to consider,
Before condemning anything, it would be best if the entire charging system was checked, including the battery.

You could be right regarding a possible shorted circuit causing the batteries to die early.
This should be checked by someone that is sharp with electrical testing and has the right equipment.. They should be able to find a problem if it is there.
The puzzling thing is why it started after disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it. Might involve the immobilizer system.

Thanks so much for your reply! Def curious about the immobilizer system, going to check into that!

That can get a little involved and would require someone very familiar with how it functions.

When you say it started a few minutes later,
Please explain in as much detail as you can,
What happened after it shut down, did the starter attempt to start the engine , or did you go to start it and it did nothing
Different people describe a no start many different ways and it is important to know just what what was working and what was not. Thanks.

The starter attempted to start the engine, but it wouldn’t turn over. I’m starting to wonder if the a/c compressor had something to do with the engine shutting down.

I don't know if this is the case with your vehicle.

If the charging system is functioning marginally , it may be enough to allow the vehicle enough power to run.
Of it was borderline , the drain from an A/C compressor could have been enough to deprive the electrical system of enough power to allow the engine to keep running..
Don't want to throw out too many possibles because only one might be the problem and if anyone starts replacing parts without verifying the problem, that can get expensive and disappointing.
