We have 2004 Elantra second owner with 60,900 miles. Has run great up to today. Got in car and put in reverse and than into drive the transmission made a jerk than check engine light came on. Now tran is in Limp mode. Any suggestion on what could be wrong? Tran not under warranty by only 900 miles but I dont think that is the problem becasue it has been running fine up to now.

 

Had essentially the same problem as you a little while back with my 02 elantra. Ended up flushing out the transmission and replacing the speed sensor and it ran perfectly fine again. I'd get your code read and explore that option.

 

If the check engine light is on you have to get the code first. The code will tell you where the problem is. Don't guess it it, find teh code first. If you don't have a code reader, most auto parts stores will do it for free.
