Hyundai Elantra While not much larger than the accent, the Elantra offers similar room, but a sportier look and feel, as well as more power.

Default 2005 Elantra won't start after overheating

Hi my 2005 Elantra overheated and blew a head gasket. Took it all apart, had everything checked. Head is good although I had to replace a broken valve. Cylinder walls looked OK but didn't remove any pistons. Put on a new head gasket, torqued to spec. Also changed the water pump and timing belt since I had it apart. Timing looks OK. Compression is a pretty consistent 120-125 psi in all cylinders. Given that the car has 185k miles on it, that wasn't much of a concern since it was consistent. Also replaced radiator (old one split), thermostat, hoses, wires, plugs, and belts. Did NOT replace coils or injectors. The car has spark and after cranking for awhile I do smell fuel so I assume it's getting fuel. I can hear the fuel pump start when I turn the key. It was running fine before it overheated. Now it just spins. No ignition whatsoever. It cranks just like what I'd expect for no spark or no fuel - but it seems to have both. What can I check to figure out what's going on?

Use the timing light to check the timing belt.

This is an old thread.
The OP never came back with an answer or fix
With all the work that was done on the Elantra, would expect something they did wasn't quite right.
It had spark and fuel??

Maybe he will reply. My kids car overheated and won’t start I’m hoping some thing dumb like. Bad temp sensor caused it

Do you know how long and how far it was driven in the HOT condition?
