Default Coil Harness.

Hello! I’m looking for some help. Was replacing my spark plugs and realized that the clips on the wires ends that connect to the spark plug coils didn’t lock any more. I would assume from being old. I called Hyundai and they said I would need to replace the entire engine harness. I would have thought I could just replace the coil harness. How true is this? If so where can I find the part. It’s a 2011 Hyundai Elantra 1.8L.

Well they'd be correct but is anything broken? Is it just fouled up with grit or need a clean? Other options could be finding the connector and getting a good auto sparky to de-pin the old pigtail and rebuild a new shell

Or buy this genuine harness and , either splice it in or again disassemble the shells and swap them. Pretty cheap too. If cutting original cabling you run the risk of introducing corrosion points so the job would have to be sealed up well and insulated to prevent shorting. maybe solder joiners.

Just need to be sure the profile is correct

yeah that’s what I was looking for but my issue is you see the last coil wire goes down rather then across like the rest. Is that just how they have it designed? This one you linked could I just hook it in directly and disregard the way they have it wired?

This harness is for a completely different model or engine setup. The point I'm trying to make here is this.
  1. you purchase a complete OEM harness (or used one, also likely worn ) for your vehicle at great expense
  2. you get smart and identify the actual portion that is defective and repair existing either backshell or cut both harnesses in a way you can rejoin the cables using this harness if the connectors at the coil ends are the same
I was not thinking cut the main harness and splicing this whole assembly as one, more to either cut and use the pigtails or rebuild the caps which will need possibly correct insertion tools and why I was thinking a good auto elec

Default Elantra Coil Connectors

Some image searches show a few other possible sources for replacement connectors:

5 for $5.82: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5sets-Molex...5TI8zKhzZ5K8vw
5 for $7.49: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3286...477808c64d0973
1 for $88.00: https://connectorexperts.com/i-24866...ntra%26go%3DGo
($88.00 may seem excessive, but it also includes 8 inches of wire. :-)

I hope I can just extract and reinsert the new light-grey locking tabs into my old connectors where they broke.

Something that will work, but don't know whether you want to do it or not.

If you wrap a zip tie around the lower portion of the plug (coil) then use that to hold another zip tie around the harness plug to the coil. Have seen that and even tried it and it works.
You will find the job is better if all the junk is blown out of the area.

Also, the harness plugs must go to the correct coil AND CANNOT BE MIXED UP !

Has anyone been able to find this harness?
Or a pigtail with the right connectors?

If its pigtails that you truly want, the harness shown in the earlier post by tw2005 (for other vehicles) can be found on Amazon for $25 by searching by its part #. It appears to use the same coil-connectors as the 2011 Elantra harness, available from Hyundai for $1000 or so. The coil-connectors can be either cut off and re-spliced.

But I found it easier to remove my old coil-connectors and reattached new ones to my old 2011 Elantra harness without any cutting or splicing. I used just the plastic parts from a $5 package of 5 new replacement connectors (see my previous post) to replace the old broken and brittle parts on my harness. These should work for any vehicle that uses either the 27300-2E000 (UF-651) or 27301-2B100 (UF-652) coils.

It took a little practice to learn how to remove and reinstalling the gray locking tabs in a non-destructive way. (Having 5 in a pack is nice. :-)
I was eventually able to do it using a mini screwdriver, or even a paper clip. And it seemed impossible to remove the old coil-connectors from the harness without damaging the old brittle plastic even further. But none of that really mattered since it was easy to snap the new connectors onto the old harness' pins, and the new connectors locked perfectly onto both new and old coils.

To release each pin from the connector, poke the end of an unfolded paper clip about 1/4" into one of the small square "eye holes" of the yellow plastic cap. Then and while pressing the clip's tip downward away from the pin to unlock it, pull on the wire from the other side to remove the pin.

Default Coil connector fix the right way

I broke the coil connector on my Hyundai Elantra GT 2014 2L engine. I sent my wife to a Hyundai dealer and they told her that she had to change the whole wire harness at a cost of 1250$ part only and that was the only solution. I said no way. I went to another Hyundai dealer myself and told him that it was impossible that changing the harness was the only solution since I’m sure that the dealers also break some lock clips when changing the spark plugs because they become dry and brittle.. This Hyundai part person was extremely nice and said give me your serial number and I will see what I can do. He sold me the coil connector 28$ and I disassemble it and replace the connector shell on my wife’s car. This is the solution to a broken coil connector. The video link will show you how to fix it the right way..

do you think the broken clips can cause a P0303 misfire code and check engine light to come up ?
