Driverside Power Window Problem

Driverside Power Window Problem
My girlfriends driverside window wont go up. I removed the door panel and am able to look down and see the cable on the motor is tangled up. To push the button up or down makes a grinding sound and wont lift the window.
I also tried to remove the motor to rewind the cable but was unable to remove the motor, even with the window all the way up.
Also while the window is up, pulled up with much effort, it wont stay.
Any ideas or thoughts on this?

RE: Driverside Power Window Problem
When you say the same problem, have you confirmed the cable is tangled, or just that the window won't go up and down? There was an issue with corrosion in the door harness on some Elantras; Hyundai put out a procedure to fix it.
If the mechanism is screwed up, though, that's a different thing altogether.

RE: Driverside Power Window Problem
The best thing I can think of to try to solve the problem would be to take the other door trim panel off, and use that one as a "model" of what a properly assembled and working power window motor looks like, and try to put the broken one together the same way.

RE: Driverside Power Window Problem
Here's the solution:
1) Take out the old Power Window Regulator
2) Buy a new one from the dealter (approx $120) or ebay (approx $60)
3) install Power Window Regulator.
Looks like this is a common problem with the power windows. The cable gets ridiculously tangled in the regulator. I tried to fix it to no aveil. Believe me don't bother trying! Once the metal wire is tangled it's difficult to undo the damage. I spent hours trying to fix it and it wasn't worth it. Just get the part and install it. BTW you've gotta disconnect the power window motor as well as the actual window(must be down) and remove the whole contraption (motor and regulator).
All the best,
Choo
