My 1999 car has very dirty head lamps. They are a milky white and hard to get any light through them any more. Is there a way to clean them?

The recommended procedure is using a buffer on an electric drill with rubbing compound. I did it on my car, it works pretty good. You can get most of it with wet/dry sandpaper first, that saves lots of time. Keep the compound wet to a slurry consistency, careful not to burn the plastic with the buffer.
