Default Intermittent radio issues

Hi,

My wife has an '01 Elantra with 92K on it. Several years ago, she had the stock radio replaced (professionally) with a JVC. All was good up until a few weeks ago. The radio would stay on, but no sound was coming out. However, when she'd turn the lights on/off, tap the brakes, etc. it would start playing again. I have since put the stock one back in, and it does the same thing. However, when I tap the brakes/turn the lights on/off, I hear a pop/cracking sound from the front passenger side speaker.

In browsing the forum, I've come across similar issues with other electrical components, including radios, with other posters. At first, I suspected a short somewhere, and everyone knows how much of a pain they can be to track down! After hearing the crack/pop in the speaker, I'm beginning to suspect the speaker wiring somewhere. I also read that several people have fixed the issue by replacing the positive battery cable.

The cars battery was replaced about 2 years ago. But, the cables were not. Any one have any ideas?

Thanks.

Disconnect that speaker from the system entirely at the radio end if possible. Do the other speakers work? If so, you've got a place along that speaker wire which is grounding out. Otherwise, sounds like a loose ground somewhere. Check those connections.

Thanks for the suggestion. I was guessing a short somewhere as well. Thanks again!
