'14 Santa Fe. Rough start/odometer Inop. Weird!
Hi,
I have a 2014 Santa Fe. Good vehicle....not many issues and I'm genuinely pleased with the car as it is 10/11 years old by now so i'm not complaining, but i've been experiencing some issues lately that have me a bit concerned. Approx. 180,000 kilometers (yes i'm Cdn lol). Dealer can't find any fault codes.
Rough start sometimes - not all the time. It takes a second to start and when it does, it runs rough. Odometer doesn't register RPMs. Speedometer often unphased. When it starts funky like that, I know there's a good chance the ability to accelerate might be an issue at some point. I've had to stop at a stop light after that happened and i could barely get the car to budge with the pedal to the floor. As much as this is scary, I've learned to turn the car off and restart and then it's fine until the next time it happens. (weird!) So i'm thinking maybe computer issues, but then why the codes don't show up when the dealer checked?
Sometimes in the middle of driving, I feel a kick (if I didn't know any better, it sounds like a slippage for a millisecond), and then resumes, but then sometimes when that happens, the odometer stops working. Speedometer is fine as usual.
...and ya my check engine light is on, but it's been on for years...i'm not to worried about that.
Some could say, oh just ditch it and get a new car. Sure, but this one is paid for, so I'm very reluctant to get myself into a monthly payment especially right now if I don't have to. I'd driving this until it dies lol.
I'm also not mentioning the cosmetic embarrassment for years where the paint has slowly and consistently been chipping/falling off the front of the hood. It's starting to look like the world map lol. Everyone knows it's me driving down the road lol OMG. Hi everybody! I swear! I was told that Hyundai had issues with their white paint on these Santa Fe's, but i'm sure by now it's too late to have that covered by Hyundai.
anyway...i'm more concerned about the mechanics of what's going on and what it could be so i can have it properly fixed. (of course if it's something that comes with a huge repair bill, I'd have to reevaluate my attachment to enjoying no monthly car payments). Dealer doesn't know what's wrong with it.
Anyone experience something like this?
thanks

with the tachometer not working that's related with the (CPS) crankshaft position sensore. they do fail & go bad on hyundai's prety common actualy did one on daughters elantra 2 years ago syptoms include stalling, especially tachometer rpm not working. i would put one on there for giggles not teribly espensive $
Given the issues, it could be related to several factors. Rough starts and erratic behavior could point to problems with the ignition system or fuel delivery. Since the car runs better after a restart, it might be an issue with the fuel system or an intermittent fault that temporarily clears. The transmission could also be causing the kick and slippage, particularly if there's a problem with the fluid or the transmission control module. Additionally, electrical issues or problems with the engine control module might be affecting the odometer and speedometer. If your dealer couldn’t find any fault codes, it might be worth getting a second opinion from a diagnostic specialist. As for the paint issue, Hyundai did have problems with certain colors, but it's likely too late for warranty coverage.
