In reading your post , you state tachometer, is this what you mean or speedometer ?

If tach, the info for engine RPM is provided by the crank sensor. If no problem other than tach, problem is most likely with info coming from vehicle computer to instrument cluster.

Sorry yes I meant speedometer? It was working on my wife's way to work and then on the way home she said it wasn't working anymore.

I have read #4 but the problem is I have no idea where to locate the sensor. I guess thanks for all your help. Hopefully I can I actually figure out where it's located. Atleast if I find it I can look back at your posts

Even the best techs will usually take a few minutes to look over a situation to decide the best approach and even then a good visual inspection sometimes reveals simple things before starting a lengthy job.
Sometimes a good cup of coffee and that visual inspection can often help see things that we miss . I'm pretty sure that gear that was stripped was driven from the output shaft of the transaxle. I will try to find a pix, but you never know.
If you want to try ,you might stop by a trans shop and ask if they could direct you to where that speed sensor is on your trans. They might even have what you need . If they charge a reasonable charge , it might be worth to have them check that for you.
