2001 Sonata 2.4L 4 cylinder won't start
My daughter was complaining that at times her Sonata would not pick up speed quickly when she pressed on the gas pedal. There was a kind of "deep" roaring sound for a few seconds and then it would slowly pick up speed. I thought maybe bad gas, so I changed the fuel filter, added fuel system cleaner, changed the oil, etc.
It drove alright for about a week and then refused to start up one morning, and still hasn't after 2 days. It is sitting in her apartment parking lot & I can not drive it anywhere to get a code check. It turns over fine, just won't catch. I checked the timing belt (good), there is spark at the plugs, and the fuel pump is working fine. The connection(s) at the Crank Position Sensor were brittle enough to crack apart, but sensor is intact. I am replacing all the wiring to the CPS and possilbly the CPS itself. Of course the wiring had to be special ordered from the dealer. Is there a special procedure to follow to install the CPS?
The Sonata has 70,500 miles on it. The timing belt was changed out under warrenty @ 40K miles. We have been the only owners of this vehicle.
Thanks.
