My wife purchased a 2006 Sonata new in '06. In '07 a crack appeared around the left side of the passenger airbag component in the dashboard. We called the dealer and they had the dashboard cover replaced. Now in '10, it has happened again. The crack appeared exactly where the previous crack appeared... on the left side of the airbag component on the passenger side of the dashboard. The car was out of warrenty, but they agreed to replace the dashboard for a second time free of charge. When I went to pick up the car I asked why this was a reoccurring problem. I asked if the airbag was pushing up against the dashboard causing the issue. The only answer I got was "I've only seen this one time before on a much older Hyundai". Well that doesn't help me at all. Since it has happened to us twice I refuse to believe that this is a rare issue. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

Normal occurrance with vinyl and exposure to heat and sunlight.... the material is Pre-cut so that if PAB did need to deploy, the expanding bag can easily tear the pre-cuts you see, and break the solids between the pre-cuts... or else the solid dash cover would trap the bag in the dash and all it' energy be used to explode the dash with pieces and parts as shrapnel rather than easily tearing the flap and allow bag to pass...

In the pic, the 3 sided square shows the cuts you are seeing that would allow the flap to open and allow the bag to expand.. after the bag blows, it's new crash pad time..
