2007 Sonata - Oil Issues & Engine Knocking
I own a 2007 Hyundai Sonata, the 4cyl edition.
Recently, it's been losing oil from somewhere, I have been unable to pinpoint exactly where it's leaking from. I also have a check engine light on.
It began to accelerate slowly, shifting hard around 2500-3000 rpm's. Eventually, it began to make a 'knocking' or 'clicking' noise as I accelerated. It also made the same noise while idling.
This morning on the way to work, the knocking got much louder, and it prompted me to pull over in a parking lot. The oil light flickered off/on, rather than turning on in a solid manner. After shutting off my car, it would not start back up. As I pulled over, it sounded like there was something that may have broken in the motor, the knocking noise slowly stopped as the engine shut off.
I'm bringing it to a shop after work, but I was wondering if anyone has had these same experiences, or perhaps if anyone knows what potentially could have broke?
Thanks in advance!

As you know by this time, anytime you hear the engine knocking ANYTIME,,,,,you don't continue driving the vehicle, until you know the reason for the knocking. You were aware of the engine losing oil and possibly didn't check the oil level so I believe you now know what happens if you drive the vehicle with a low oil level and knocking noise.
Let's hope the engine is not ruined due to the lack of lubrication. If that is the case it may be cheaper to replace the engine than to attempt to repair it.
