2015 Hyundai Sonata thinks key is inside, but it isn't!
Hi all! How are ya?
We unfortunately had a break-in incident with our Sonata.. but, they didn't end up getting the car!
We replaced the window. The guy or gal stuck a screwdriver in the car to try to take it. Actually, a locksmith/mechanic came and removed a piece of screwdriver... and I had a new ignition switch there, but we were able to use the old one. Both the new and old one had the same issue, however: The Sonata thinks a key is in the car even when it's not.
This, I think, affects the remotes not working, it affects the locking (it wants to keep unlocked all the time), and I think it may affect the headlights not automatically turning off when the car is turned off like they used to after a while. (I would leave them on, lock up with the remote, and they would indeed turn off after a minute or so).
I checked the fuses, tried a hard reset on the battery. Not sure what to do, to be honest, or what it could be. The guy did have to hammer the old ignition switch out or something like that, but he got it out and it does work - and even a new ignition switch was doing the same thing.
This guy has a solution for an older car, but not sure how to test it:
Can't quite find the "key reminder switch" to see if it's stuck or broken.
Any ideas? Thanks a bunch!

Hey Bluestar,
We are having the EXACT same problem, to the T, with our 2015 Sonata. Were you ever able to find a good fix? Was it the grounding wire as shown in the video or did it turn out to be something else?
We went to the dealership to get the software update and anti theft sticker and they told us, "make sure you lock the car or the antitheft wont activate." Then got home to realize the dinging that we told them about was also preventing the doors from locking. The mechanic said that they just ding like that and didn't even try to fix it and when we told them that is never did that before they said it would require a diagnostic to determine the problem (at 5pm on a Friday, ugh!)... Super frustrating, especially since we told them the issue!! You would think that given the enormity of this recall they would know all of the problems by now.
Please let us know what you guys figured out!

Hello! Yes, the solution was quite simple. Take the cover off your steering column so you can see the ignition switch. You don't have to take the ignition switch out. Just disconnect the power cable going into the ignition switch. The beeping will stop and the only downside is there will be no bright light around your ignition (keys) but that's not really noticeable. Just look for the power cable that's also connected to the light bulb that lights up the area around the keys. That's the one to disconnect from the ignition switch.
