AC / Heat
have a 2006 Sonata GLS with auto climate control - here lately the A/C hasn't worked - checked the compresson -it's working
It seems to be some type of "Blend door" as when the system to completely OFF, hot air still blows in
Does anyone have a solution -
Thanks

Ok - with no replies - I decided to jump into this fix by myself -
I already knew my a/c compressor was working as I could hear it turn on and off. Also knew my coolent line wasn't leaking and I could feel it get real cold when I turned on the a/c -
so by deduction I knew it had to be the "blend door", or avac actuiator as Hyundai calls it - but it controls the amount of cold and hot air into the cabin.
I started by taking out the glove box - opend the passenger door and there is a side panel - it staps in and out - pull on the handle - pull harder.
opening the glove box you will see a cilender looking thing (kinda like a shock absorber) that attaches to the wall of the glove box - un hook this.
then on the iside of the glove box there are two rubber tabs on each side of the wall of the glove box - these pull in and slide up, remove these. This will allow your glove box to open full and go almost to the floor. There will be TOW electrical clips one for the actual light in the top of the glove box (simple pull and remove) one at the bottom left for the on/off putton (pull and remove)
Then you will see two black pins that go through two hinges on the back of the glove box. Pull these two pins out. Now you can remove the entire glove box.
Next is the small kick plate that runs under the box. it's attached with screws - remove them and the kick plate.
you now can see the blower motor in front of you - also above the blower motor there is the cabin air filter - I would suggest you take it out and at least clean it, if not replace it ($30). Pull it straight back it simply un clips.
Now you need to remove the floor heat vent tube - It's attached with one screw at eh bottom of the blower and then kind of a pressure fitting at the center console.
The HVAC actuiatior is located about half way up the console and has one electrical fitting to the bottom - detach the electrical fittion and remove the three screws (top right corner - middle front - bottom right). these screws are all in the housing its self. With the actuiator removed you can test your hvac system and move the blend door cable manually.
The new part is about $90.00 at the stealership.
Remember where all your screws go - it takes about 2 hours - but anyone that can turn a screw driver can do this repair.
