Default Engine Swap

I am new to this forum, so I hope I am posting this in the correct location.

I replaced the engine in my son's 2001 Tiburon. It is the 2.0 Litre engine. The guy who owned it before him must have poured gallons of stop leak and the engine overheated. I got a used engine out of an Elantra, looks exactly like the same engine.

I put the engine in and it starts right away, but seems to be running very rich. Major hesitation when I step on the gas. Someone told me there there may be a difference in the fuel mapping between an Elantra and a Tiburon. Is this correct?

Are the injectors different between an Elantra and Tiburon? If so can the ECM be remapped with the Eltantra injectors or do I have to replace the injectors?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Before guessing at the problem, I'd suggest getting the computer read to see what codes are stored in it. That will give you a better starting point to finding the problem. What year Elantra was the replacement engine out of?

It too was a 2001. I do not have a check engine light, so I am assume there are no faults. I sure I can have the codes read.
Thanks for the response.

Just because the light isn't on doesn't mean there are no codes. It can't hurt to get the computer read just to be sure.
