2005 Tucson GLS 2.7l Idle too high/stalls/hard starts
Hello,
New to the world of Hyundai vehicles but I needed a new ride and they came highly recommended, so I bought a Tucson. I've had it a week and am starting to have fuel related issues. First off when I filled the tank for the first time I smelled a LOT of gas fumes. I took a look and there were no drips but the fuel filler where it meets the rubber hose before the tank is slightly wet so I definitely need to replace it.
Then over the past few days they Idle while stopped has started passing 2500 RPM while in gear, like at stop lights. Then a day or so later, it stalled on the way to work and would not restart. The opinions I heard was fuel pump. Unfortunately no one withing 30 miles of me had the whole fuel assembly so i had to but just the pump. I got the assembly out with a bit of struggle, dismantled it, replaced the pump and the car started, ran fine for a couple miles then started acting up again. The fuel and old pump were clean, no gunk or buildup, the inside of the tank was free of any sediment or separated liquids. Based on what I have read that tells me its likely that odd metal regulator inside the fuel pump/sensor assembly?
Or am I off base? I so need to get this back to driveable ASAP so I dont loose my job.
