Default 2008 Santa Fe surges with high rpm's while braking when coming to a stop.

My 2008 Santa Fe 2wd with 3.3 6 cyl engine recently surged almost uncontrollably and with high rpm's while braking as I attempted to slow down for a traffic backup on the highway after about 2 hours of driving. The car surged and the engine raced while I pressed on the brake with maximum force. I fortunately thought to put the car into neutral in order to safely stop and avoid a potential rear end collision. Afterwards, the car was OK and I had no further issues with surging or braking. This same situation has happened at least 4 other times in the past 3 years. Each time it happens, I have to brake as hard as possible as the car wants to move forward with high rpm's. After finally stopping, the condition rarely repeats itself for another 3-4,000 miles. I had an engine scanner indicate that no codes were set. My car has 76k miles on it. What's a likely source of my problem? Is there a test or procedure available to determine what's wrong and what needs to be repaired or replaced. It is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed. Power brake booster? TPS? Engine Speed Sensor? What??

I was not using cruise control at all during this trip and furthermore, I did not have my other foot on the gas pedal . . . although the car acted like I did have one foot on the gas and the other on the brake.

Because this is a safety concern,it would be a wise move to have the throttle system checked out ,,,,,,,,,,,,before you have a situation you cannot handle safely.
