Default 2001 accent automatic 87000K lugs at 4000rpm

Recently purchased by my 80 year oldDad only 2 months ago.

This car doesn't want to rev in the higher rpm range .
Stalls and fades when accelerating or revving engine, even in nuetral.

The car keeps running if I ease off the accelerator.

I am quite unfamiliar with these cars and am thinking of going
to the dealer for an estimate

Changed plugs/and tried removing air filter no improvement.

Any ideason what to do or what to ask at the dealerdiagnostic codes

Please Help

Have you replaced the air filter? A blocked filter would be most apparent at higher RPMs.

My next guess is something in the fuel system- weak pump, blockage, etc.

I'm surprised it's not throwing a code.

Ok been to the dealer
Essentially they cleared the codes and disconnected the
Mass air flow sensor
The car runs fine.
I note that on the report they said that the car would not run without it.(mass control sensor)
Its disconnected and the car is running fine??????????????
They also said that mass air sensor should be replaced.
and they suspect the throttle positioning sensor as well.

I am just as confused but the car seems to be runnng fine without the mass airsensor.

Is there any harm in running it like this?

not really, its an emission thing as far as i know. it shouldnt be running without it, but thats cause the computer should be freaking out that its not getting a signal. the maf didnt get into cars till 95ish anyway, its not a nessassary thing to make the car run. but like i said the computer should be wonder were the hell it went.

right, its just a sensor that tell the computer whats going on, if its disconnected thats almost the same as removing it

Is it possible or likely that when the dealer cleared the codes
that this is what resolved the problem?

Disconecting the mass air flow sensor would mean higher fuel consumption .
Reason being, this is what tells the computer how to adjust the air and fuel mixter, ad yes the car would still run but at a increased fuel cost.
