2013 Elantra GLS replaced Crankshaft positional sensor - OIL
Hey all,
New to the forum. I searched but couldn't find the answer.
I assume the housing that the Crankshaft positional sensor (CPS) sits in is just a cavity and not actually open to the crank. It's a magnetic (Hall effect?) sensor I believe.
Anyways, was getting a code, and mechanic said CPS. It made sense - rough idle, tach at zero.
It would come and go.
Finally got around to replacing it today and the CPS had a good amount of oil on it. It wasn't leaking as it appears the o-ring kept it all in. The metallic sensor was pretty fouled and looked rusty. I can imagine this was indeed the issue.
Is this normal to have oil on the CPS??! As I mentioned, I assume it's just a cavity that's not actually open to the crank.
Anyways thanks for your help!
