cel, cannot crank
hey guys im new to the hyundai, im a honda guy myself but im here for my dad, he owns a 1999 elantra, bout 98k miles, he just got a cel and it wont crank he has to disconnect the battery to get the cel off and his car will start after that, anyone encounter this problem?
hes getthing the book and he will check the cel code but is there something you guys know to help him out some? thanks in advance.

You wipe out the code when you disconnect the battery, so unless you get the cel again, you won't know what the code was. You don't need a book to read the code, there's plenty of places on the net to analyse codes. You say the car won't "crank". Do you mean the starter won't turn or the engine won't fire up? Why do you kids always type like you're texting?
sorry im used to threading to a certain crowd i guess, let me rephrase myself, it wont start, the cel comes back after he shuts the car off though, comes back on and off all day my dad says. i am aware of what happens when you disconnect the battery but just to get it to start he disconnects.
okay just an update it been a while saved for my own obd reader, get this guys i took it to autozone they wouldnt pull a code for me, went to kragen bought one myself, and with the cel on it wouldnt show there is a problem, no codes or anything. my dad explains the problem as shutting off at a stop and today as starting the car pulling to reverese and it dies when stopping to switch to drive, so whats happeneing with the cel codes? im confused.
i went to autozone and the guy tells me they dont do that anymore how lame is that? but since then i ahve my own, my dad trys to get a code, cel is on and it says that the car is fine?! i read the manual i got a code from my bros toyota matix but not the hyundai. my dad did replace a thermal switch had fixed it temporarly but now cel it comes on outta the blue.
soo from what my dad is describing it has something to do with the car over heating. my dad is asking for the manual for his year car where can i find this online? i cannot find it in any auto parts store. trie the following autozone, napa, kragen, world auto, whats next where do i look? is ther a pdf out there?
